Hi and Welcome to our site! We hope you enjoy reading our ‘property’ descriptions and that you perhaps even contribute some photos and content of your own… we want our site to be as interactive and engaging as possible, and the only way we can achieve that, is by obtaining your content!
This site started out as a wacky idea that was tossed out while on a romantic riverside walk…from there, the vision became a reality and we started taking photos of suitable ‘hovels’ and challenging ourselves to write flowery descriptions for each picture.
The property market in Ireland, and in our capital city in particular, is grossly out-of-control and the rental sector is under severe pressure, with demand far outstripping supply. As a result, some landlords are exploiting this situation and charging hugely disproportionate, some might say, even extortionate rents for single rooms and shared rooms, often in totally unsuitable and cramped spaces. The reason they can do this is back to the supply-demand ratio and because they can! Back when the country was awash with credit during the good old days of the Celtic Tiger, when the government could have been looking to the future and ensuring that money was spent wisely …extending rural broadband, ensuring that we had good infrastructure, investing in health, jobs and housing (building more social housing as well!), our politicians were…well, I’m not sure what they were doing but it doesn’t seem to have involved any sort of forward planning or vision!
In any case the motivation behind this site is to ridicule the situation, to cast a satirical eye over the glowing adverts you see in the property pages and to expose the greed and hypocrisy of the estate agents and landlords who are selling these properties. We fervently hope also, that perhaps by drawing further attention to the issue of housing, it’ll perhaps embarrass the government into action.
The Brains behind the operation are Sorcha, a teacher and dreamer, and the Executor of the Vision is Tom, a Historian and aspiring writer, blogger and journalist.
